Strengthen, Encourage and Evolve Our Mission Rise Above Defeat offers programs for teens and adults ages 12 and up, who battle with emotional and behavioral challenges. We provide Christian life coaching/ mentoring services, remotely and in person to those in impoverished communities. Our expanded mission is to "Help Revive a Teen" serving youth from age 14 to 26. We help those who have been victimized, abused, manipulated, who are experiencing homelessness and being forced into human exploitation. We focus on inner healing and reintegration back into society. ​ Our Plan Stop Selling People!! ​ ​ In 2020, 109,216 victims of human trafficking were identified worldwide. This is almost ten thousand less than in the previous year, but the number of human trafficking victims has significantly increased in the past decade. A common misconception about human trafficking is that it does not happen in the United States. This is false, as the United States is ranked as one of the worst countries globally for human trafficking. It is estimated that 199,000 incidents occur within the United States every year. The National Human Trafficking Hotline has one of the most extensive data sets on human trafficking in the United States collected through phone calls, texts, online chats, emails, and online tips received by the Hotline. While this information is some of the most comprehensive available, the data does not define the totality of human trafficking. The number of cases presented is only the cases that are reported. **Let's also note that youth homelessness is closely connected to teen exploitation What is Child Sex Trafficking? ​ Child sex trafficking is the exploitation of minors (defined as children under 18, though teens over 18 can be victims as well) for prostitution. According to the U.S. Dept. of State, “if a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age,” it is considered sex trafficking. The average age of a victim is between 12-14 years old. An estimated 300,000 adolescents every year fall victim to sex trafficking. However, experts assume the numbers are much higher due to the secretive nature of trafficking. Who is Vulnerable? ​ Many teens who fall prey to sex traffickers are adolescents who ran away from home due to family issues or because they lack a safe/permanent home life. While on the streets, they’re often lured into prostitution—usually within two days. These adolescents are often promised money, food, gifts a place to stay, and/or drugs. Pimps also try recruiting adolescents through coercion, which can include psychological manipulation or the use of gifts. Sometimes, the teens don’t realize they are getting into a sex trafficking ring. Many times, these runaways are girls, but sex trafficking victims can be boys, too. Other adolescents vulnerable to sex traffickers are those in the foster care system. Exploiters target these children because they know they have no stable home life or emotional connection to family. Teens living in foster or group homes are vulnerable especially if they’ve been abused in the past. Offering acceptance, love, connection, and financial stability, the traffickers try to seduce these adolescents. Even if adolescents want to leave, they often can’t. Their exploiters may threaten to beat them, starve them, hurt their family, or any other sort of punishment. Oftentimes, the traumatized adolescent may have a complicated relationship with their abuser. They may even think the abuser protects rather than exploits them. California has a huge sex trafficking problem, especially when it comes to adolescents. That’s not largely highlight or broadcast on the news. According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC), the largest majority of the human trafficking cases reported in the U.S. each year originate in California. In fact, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are three of the ten worst child sex trafficking cities in the U.S. (California Against Slavery). Human trafficking is one of San Diego’s worst criminal issues —second only to drug trafficking. The minimal access to mental health services is amid even more staggering statistics that indicate one of the most common mental health disorders in the United States is major depression. The disparity of mental health services worsens among youth and adolescents in the United States living in poverty where 21% of youth and children as young 6 to 17 years old have a mental health disorder. Our focus is to serve youth survivors of human trafficking and to bridge youth homelessness throughout the state. The harvest is ready, but the workers are few. We will provide assistance to youth who are in need of intensive therapy and restoration. RISEE Homes will be a safe and healthy environment for individuals to stay while receiving inner healing and trauma care. Our Vision... RISEE Revive, Inner Heal, Strengthen, Encourage and Evolve Help Revive a Teen standards are set upon providing youth with a secure and safe place to stay while receiving tools needed to Rise Above challenges. while avoiding youth homelessness RISEE Homes goal is to correct negative behavior, reverse negative thinking patterns, introduce positive grounding techniques and implement skills to help them push through and accomplish their life goals. RISEE Homes will teach and train Christ centered principles from the Holy Bible and the RISEE Restoration Program. RISEE Homes will offer a 12 to 18 month program that allow survivors in their youth time to work through trauma, began their healing journey and equip them to integrity back into society. RISEE Restoration Program provides individual and family focus services that restore hope and dignity to youth and their families who have experienced exploitation. The youth will come in to receive inner healing; which is when an individual encounters love, healing and deliverance by grounding themselve in Jesus Christ. It's not forced but happens when an individual is ready to receive, share and release their secrets and trauma. It is Help Revive a Teen responsiblity to provide a confidential and secure safe home for these youth. Help Revive a Teen will work together with other service providers and collaborative partner to make sure each youth receives proper and appropriate care. About Us Rise Above Defeat Our Story Rise Above Defeat derived from the desire of one person wanting to inspire and help younger individuals strengthen their personal self-image, practice self-love, and exercise respect for others and self. Rise Above Defeat has a niche for transforming negative thoughts into positive motivation that helps with rising above defeat. Rise Above Defeat originally started as life coaching services for adolescents. Rise Above Defeat Coaching was licensed as a business in July 2018 and was available for business as of January 2019. In May 2021 Rise Above Defeat became a Non-profit organization 501C3, which offers resources for individuals seeking guidance and direction in life. Rise Above Defeat provides Christian Life Coaching and mentoring for adults and adolescents starting at age 12. Rise Above Defeat offers once a week 60-minute sessions ranging from 4 to 8 weeks depending on monthly low-cost special. Monthly low-cost specials are combined with free sessions that are listed on the website. After all scheduled sessions are finished based on the initial number of sessions agreement form, an extension payment is required by client or parent/guardian for additional sessions. Rates are determined based on a sliding scale fee. Rise Above Defeat will help jump start the journey to freedom for individuals living in unhealthy cycles, worry, and doubt about their future. Rise Above Defeat is linked with Christian Life Coaches/ mentors who come from different walks of life and now live a life of serving others by giving them tools to overcome and push forward in life.
