Rise Above Defeat is a 501(c)(3) counseling center that works to reduce mental health care disparities in impoverished communities through providing access to mental health care. Rise Above Defeat employs evidence-based approaches to mental health care access; and therapeutic approaches to address negative thinking, behaviors and personal trauma. Our methodology includes ongoing resources and coping mechanisms that promote continued inner healing.
The demographic Rise Above Defeat serves are individuals living at or below the poverty line. Rise Above Defeat is passionate about equipping individuals to rise above any mental health challenges to lead productive lives.
We provide group and individual therapy to youth and adults remotely, and at a fraction of the cost. Our evidence-based approach to providing therapy has led to reduced cost, improved access, and improved mental health in underserved communities.
Studies indicate that mental health care is accessible to roughly 70 percent of communities across the United States, however only 14 percent of communities living at or below the poverty line have the mental health services that are needed. The minimal access to mental health services are amid even more staggering statistics that indicate one of the most common mental health disorders in the United States is major depression.
The disparity of mental health services worsens among youth and adolescents in the United States living in poverty where 21% of youth and children as young 6 to 17 years old have a mental health disorder. Rise Above Defeat exists to provide equal access to communities that need it the most.
